Webinar Overview

This is webinar 2 of 2 in a mini series of professional learning for anyone training to teach. Designed and delivered by Andrew Young, Co-Director of Pathfinder Teaching School Hub and Author of Adaptive Teaching: Culture to Classroom (Crown House Publishing). This professional learning webinar is here to give you, the Teacher Trainee, practical strategies and deep understanding to become an even more powerful advocate for the pupils you support.

Adaptive teaching isn’t just a buzzword; it’s about making your support precise and effective for all pupils, especially those with SEND.

This webinar will specifically focus on pupils with SEND, but the great news is, much of what we cover will benefit all pupils. We will explore 1 of 4 essential ingredients for adaptive teaching to be effective – teaching!

  • Initial Teacher Trainees, Student Teachers, Trainees
  • Undergraduate students on Education-related courses at University
  • Trainee Apprentices
  • Teachers on the Assessment Only Route
  • You might find this useful if you are an ECT Yr1 or Yr2 colleague
  • ITT Mentors, Lead Mentors, ITT Coordinators or similar
  • Revisit why an awareness of cognitive load, working memory and executive function is so important when assessing pupil strengths, barriers and opportunities for learning
  • Review a range of teaching strategies such as direct instruction, teacher exposition (verbal and non-verbal communication), dual coding, hinge questions, setting inclusive homework, and more
  • Spend time planning for an upcoming lesson and how, why and when to implement one of the strategies from this webinar
  • Gain advice on where to go and who to speak to if you would like to find an adaptive teaching expert in your school – this isn’t always the SENDCo
